COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course examines contemporary problems involving the role and effectiveness of law and legal institutions in international community. It includes discussions on jurisdiction of states, the law of the sea, the law of air and airspace, sovereign immunity; the “act of state” doctrine; statehood and recognition, international organizations; the peaceful settlement of international disputes; responsibilities of states for injuries to aliens; and control of the use of force in international affairs. International law is a prerequisite to International Organizations and International Humanitarian Law.
