COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is a branch of International Law that deals with the rules regulating armed conflicts. It explores the legal bases for the concept “even wars have limits”.
Navigation through this course will be about victim protection, which considers persons exposed to conflict, including the ill, the captured and civilians; prisoners of war, the wounded, the sick in the field or on a wrecked ship at sea. It further discusses the scope of military actions as provided for in the four Geneva Conventions of 1949 and the two optional protocols of 1977, this will also include the basic rules of International Humanitarian Law.
